Works for exactly why I bought it for but don't understand why it has a phone number if I can't call it

Yes, I'd recommend this product.
The longest display timeout is only 10 minutes and I need longer for certain situations. The battery percentage is in a small bubble and that makes the numbers hard to see. Putting the tablet on dark mode doesn't work with some websites like YouTube but my older tablets did. The battery life doesn't last all day if you're using your tablet quite a bit. Overall it's still a pretty good tablet, it's just some of the features you have to work around and get used to.

Machine works fine except for finding 5G signal. My Pixel 7 phone will find 5G and the tablet will only get LTE in the same place.

I needed something bigger than my phone because of recent eye issues. Its not the fastest but works. It doesnt have a lot if memory but works. What can i say. It works.
