Swap mobile phone with someone on your account FAQs

If you have 2 phones active on your Verizon mobile account, you can swap the phones between your existing numbers. You still have both numbers, but each has the other’s phone.

Swapping is different than:

• Upgrading a device on your existing line.
• Bringing a device to Verizon.
• Transferring numbers between Verizon accounts.
• Sharing a number between devices.

Here are the requirements for swapping phones on your mobile account:

• You must be an Account Owner or Account Manager to request the swap.
• Both numbers must be active on the same Verizon mobile account.
• You must pay any balances due.
• Any pending orders on your account must be completed or canceled.
• There can't be any fraudulent activity associated with either phone's Device ID.

Note: Prepaid Family Accounts aren't able to swap devices at this time.

Here's how to do a mobile phone swap:

• Before you make the swap, back up your phone to avoid losing your content.
• You must contact us to make the swap. Visit Contact us, choose Mobile then Shop to reach a Customer Service representative.

Good to know: Swapping phones is free, however, you might need to update your data plan to be compatible with the phone you intend to use (e.g., basic, 4G or 5G smartphone). Our Customer Service representatives can help with plan compatibility.

Here’s what happens with device protection when you swap phones:

• Device protection stays with the line (mobile number) originally enrolled.
• You can choose to keep or change device protection, when you request the swap.
