Factory Data Reset (Powered Off)

Reset your Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL to factory settings as a final troubleshooting step. Use this method if your device is unresponsive or you can't access the Settings menu.

Before you begin

Perform a factory data reset only if necessary as it removes your Google™ account and all data including system data, app data and media.
For devices with Android™ Device Protection turned on, it's imperative Google sign-in credentials are known before completing a factory reset with the device powered off. If credentials are unknown, do one of the following:
If a pattern, PIN, etc. is or has ever been set up on the device, Google account sign-in is required during initial setup.

Steps

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
    If the device is responsive and can be powered on, the preferred reset method should be performed.
  2. Press and hold the
    Power and Volume Down buttons
    on the right edge of the device until Fastboot mode (image of a triangle with an exclamation point) appears, then release.
  3. If presented with an image of a broken Android and 'No command':
    1. Press and hold the
      Power button
      .
    2. While holding the
      Power button
      press the
      Volume Up button
      then release both buttons.
  4. Select
    Recovery mode
    then wait for the screen to flash and the device to restart.
    Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select.
  5. From the Android Recovery screen, select
    Wipe data/factory reset

  6. Select
    Factory data reset
    .
  7. Select
    Reboot system now
